Pre-authorization Payment

Pre-authorization payment simplifies the charging experience and removes the need to top up an Electronic Wallet. After pre-authorization, you only pay for the energy consumed, and the difference from the blocked amount is automatically released by your bank.
Pre-authorization is a procedure that temporarily blocks an amount you select, before the session starts. After the charging session ends, only the value of the energy actually consumed is debited, and the difference is released.

Minimum pre-authorized amounts:
  • 30 LEI (VAT included) for AC charging sessions within the e-charge Network and roaming networks within Partner Networks
  • 70 LEI (VAT included) for DC charging sessions within the e-charge Network and roaming networks within Partner Networks
Maximum pre-authorized amounts, at this time, are:
  • 300 LEI (VAT included) for AC and DC charging sessions within the e-charge Network and roaming networks within Partner Networks
In the app you'll see a list of predefined values (e.g. 30, 40, 70, 130, 300 lei, etc.). Choose the amount based on how much you want to charge. If your bank cannot block the selected amount, pre-authorization will not complete and the session cannot start.
You can use it until September 9, 2026 (inclusive). After that date, the unused balance automatically transfers into the app as an available balance, only after you accept the new Terms and Conditions. The available balance is used before any pre-authorization — meaning the session first uses the balance and only then blocks an additional amount, if needed. If you have a negative balance, you won't be able to start a session until you settle it.
The app cannot be used until you accept them. Money in your Electronic Wallet can be refunded according to the legal procedure if you do not accept the terms and terminate the contract within 14 days of the notification.
Payment happens in two steps:
  1. Pre-authorization: the selected amount is blocked (e.g. 30 lei).
  2. Final debit: only the energy consumed is debited (kWh × price).
The difference is automatically released by the bank within the timeframe set by your bank (usually a few hours to a few days). Example: you pre-authorized 100 lei, consumed 30 lei → 70 lei is released.
The difference is automatically released by the issuing bank. The release time depends solely on the bank, not on e-charge.
In exceptional cases (connection errors, power interruptions, technical issues), a session may exceed the selected amount. In this case, the app will request a new pre-authorization for the additional value.
Because:
  • the first is the blocking of the pre-authorized amount,
  • the second is the actual payment for consumption.
Multiple blocks can occur in rare situations (e.g. loss of connection). The bank will automatically release incorrectly blocked amounts, or you can request a refund through the app.
Yes. For security reasons, card details will not be migrated automatically by e-charge's partner payment processor (as a reminder, e-charge does not have access to your card data). The first time you charge, after selecting the connector and the pre-authorization amount in the e-charge app, you'll be redirected to the secure payment page (with 3D Secure verification), where you enter your card details. Then, check the "Save card details" option so your data is saved and you won't need to re-enter it for future sessions.
We recommend:
  • using your Electronic Wallet balance before September 10;
  • making sure you have no outstanding amounts;
  • updating your app to the latest version after September 10.
Between 00:01–00:30, September 10, 2026, data migration will take place. During this period, some stations may be temporarily unavailable. If you experience any difficulties, contact us at [email protected] or by phone at +40 31 640 06 40.
No. Re-authentication is not required for most users. Only customers who have not updated the e-charge app to the latest version will need to update the app and log in again using their email address and password. Required steps:
  • update the app from the App Store / Google Play;
  • accept the new T&Cs;
  • enter your bank card details for pre-authorization payment.
Starting on September 10, 2026, the new pre-authorization payment mechanism requires the exclusive use of the e-charge mobile app to start charging sessions.

For individual customers
e-charge (RFID) cards issued to individual customers, previously used together with the Electronic Wallet, will be deactivated starting on September 10, 2026 and will no longer be usable for accessing charging stations within the e-charge Network or Partner Networks.

Charging will be carried out exclusively through the e-charge mobile app, using pre-authorization payment.

For business customers
RFID cards will no longer be usable by B2B customers who used the Electronic Wallet and who switch to pre-authorization payment. For B2B customers on end-of-month billing, RFID cards remain valid and may continue to be used, in accordance with applicable contractual terms.
Yes, in full (not partially), by:
  • the "Request refund" button in the app, or
  • deleting your account (which automatically includes a refund), or
  • emailing [email protected].
The refund is made within a maximum of 15 business days, after accounting checks.
No. The app cannot be used, and sessions cannot be started until the outstanding amount is paid.
If the pre-authorization is declined, the session cannot start. If the final payment is rejected, the account may be suspended until the amount is paid (in accordance with the T&C).
Invoices for charging sessions from the previous month are issued by the 5th business day of the current month. You have 5 business days to report any errors.
As long as you have an available balance (transferred from the Electronic Wallet), the billing process remains unchanged. You will continue to receive invoices as before, until the balance is fully used. Once the balance reaches 0, all charging sessions will be invoiced through the new pre-authorization payment mechanism, and the invoice will be issued monthly, by the 5th business day of the following month. In the app you'll find the information note for each session, with cost details, energy consumed, and location.
Yes. You can currently charge using direct POS payment, available at 102 locations, where we have 150 active POS terminals installed.

Pricing

Yes, there are different rates depending on the charging power provided by the station.

The normal AC charging rate applies to all chargers with Type 2 connectors and a charging power of up to 22 kW. This rate is valid for all normal (AC) charging stations, regardless of their installed power, and applies to both standalone AC stations and AC connectors on fast chargers.

The DC fast charging rate applies to direct current (DC) charging stations and is differentiated according to the power provided by the charging station where a charging session is initiated:

Fast charging rate applicable to DC charging stations offering a power up to and including 149 kW.

High-power charging rate applicable to DC CCS charging stations offering a charging power higher than 150 kW.

The difference between the two types of DC fast-charging tariffs is based on the maximum power that the charging station can provide, not on the actual power a specific type of electric vehicle charges. The difference applies only to CCS charging points/connectors. For CHAdeMO connectors, even if they are installed on stations with a power rating higher than 150 kW, the standard fast-charging rate applies.
There are different rates charged by OPM E-CHARGE for providing Services in the e-charge network and/or partner networks.

Services are provided to you by OPM E-CHARGE based on rates included in your customer account in the e-charge mobile app and/or website. Rates may change and vary depending on the e-charge charging station or partner networks. Always check the current rates in the e-charge mobile app and/or website before starting your charging session, as prices may change and differ between locations.

The e-charge Network

These are charging stations owned and operated by OPM E-CHARGE under the "Renovatio e-charge" brand. In the e-charge mobile app, these stations are marked with the car symbol and the word "e-charge" in the location name.
Partner stations are charging points operated by other companies that e-charge customers can access through partnerships. In the e-charge mobile app, these stations are marked with the car symbol and the word "Partner" in the location name.
A roaming partner station/network are part of other charging networks that e-charge customers can access through roaming agreements. These stations are marked in the e-charge mobile app with a dedicated symbol.

The Charging Process

To start a charging session, you must select the location on the e-charge mobile app map, the station and connector where you want to charge, and then connect the cable to the car.
Yes, you need at least 30 RON in your e-wallet to start any charging session. If you expect your session to cost more, ensure you have enough funds to cover the entire value of the charging session.
If the parking space is illegally occupied by a vehicle that is not using the charging station, please contact the owner of the location where the station is located (for example, a store parking lot, mall, or other private space). You can also notify us at [email protected] or call our Call Center colleagues at +4031 640 06 40.

No, only you can stop your charging session.

A session can only be stopped by the user who started it, either from the e-charge mobile app or with the same charging card used at startup.
All proprietary stations in the e-charge network operate 24/7, but access may be limited by location's operating hours (such as a hypermarket, mall, or private parking). We recommend checking the location's schedule to ensure you have access to the station.
For fast charging and high-power charging (DC – CCS or CHAdeMO), you don't need your own cable – all stations in the e-charge network have built-in cables.

For normal charging (AC) Type 2: Some stations have built-in cables, others have sockets only. We recommend always carrying your own Type 2 cable for AC charging. You can check in the e-charge mobile app or website whether a station has a socket or cable available before arriving there.
